North Holland increases subsidy for Young farmers

9 May 2018 - Kimberly Bakker

The province of Noord-Holland is increasing the subsidy for sustainable investments by young farmers from €550.000 to €825.000. The province will let you know on Wednesday 9 May.

"The increase in the subsidy should contribute to innovating and making the agricultural sector more sustainable", the press release states. By raising the ceiling, all positively assessed applications can be honored.

Many requests
The ceiling was not reached in previous years, but last year there were a surprising number of applications. That was the main reason for the province to raise the ceiling. In addition, the province is afraid that if the increase does not take place, the applicants will re-register for a subsequent tender. This leads to higher implementation costs and additional administrative costs for both the province and the applicant.

Young Farmers Scheme
The scheme Young farmers was founded in 2016 and is part of the European Rural Development Program (POP-3). 50% of the financing is provided by the European Union. With the Grant Farmers up to 40 years of age are given the opportunity to realize sustainable investments in their company (for example: solar panels, wind turbines, and manure digesters).

The subsidy for 1 farmer is a maximum of €20.000. The scheme will run until 2020 and it is possible to apply for a subsidy once a year.
