Fields are empty after heavy showers

A few fierce showers have ensured that the northeast of the Netherlands received a heavy load of rain in the afternoon and evening of 13 May. With 30 to more than 60 millimeters of precipitation in a short time, many plots were flooded.

The spread in the Netherlands is quite large. In the southwest, where there has been quite a bit of rain this year, it has now remained almost completely dry. A few millimeters fell in the middle of the Netherlands. However, Drenthe and Groningen got the full blast, with peaks of up to 65 millimeters.

An area from Assen to the German border was hit hard. A lot of water fell in a short time. Plots with potatoes, sugar beets and other crops were flooded.

There was also a lot of rain in other parts of the border area with Germany. Just across the border with the Netherlands, German arable farmers also received a lot of rain. That was accompanied by hail. Potato fields soon became completely under water.In Germany, too, almost 60 millimeters fell in some places.Heavy rain showers just over the Limburg border flood these sugar beets. It didn't stop with rain. Hail also fell just over the Dutch border.
