Following in the footsteps of North Holland

Groningen also increases subsidy for Young farmers

16 May 2018 - Kimberly Bakker

The province of Groningen has decided to make extra money available for the Young Farmers subsidy scheme. This is to ensure that all applications can still be honored.

The province of Groningen had made €2017 available in 410.000, but applications totaling €942.000 were submitted that year. The province has now decided to increase the budget for 2017, in order to be able to honor all applications. Half of the extra budget comes from the European Union (EU).

Groningen wants to meet young farmers with this. Because of their age, many of the dropouts would no longer be eligible for the new scheme, which will open this fall. In addition, they do not have to submit an application again in the autumn. This ensures that the next application round is not flooded again.

Young Farmers Scheme
The scheme Young farmers was founded in 2016 and is part of the European Rural Development Program (POP-3). 50% of the financing is provided by the EU. With the Grant Farmers up to 40 years of age are given the opportunity to realize sustainable investments in their company (for example: solar panels, wind turbines, and manure digesters).

Last week the . announced Province of North Holland to increase the subsidy amount for the Young Farmers scheme.
