Again damage from rain and hail

28 May 2018 - Anne Jan Doorn

Heavy rain and hail again damaged the crops. This while people in other places would like to have rain. Reports of extreme severe weather, with large hailstones and a lot of rain, came from Limburg, Zeeland and North Brabant.

In Zeeland, and the coastal region of Belgium below, more than 2 millimeters of precipitation fell in 60 hours in many places. In the province of Zeeland, things went wild in South Beveland; more than 27 millimeters fell there on Sunday evening 80 May. Hailstones, measuring 2 centimeters, also caused considerable damage. The south is with this again the child of the account.

In the province of Noord-Brabant, entire plots of land are under water. The main photo of the article is a plot with Innovators in North Brabant. Much damage was not only caused in the south of the country, but also in Groningen and Drenthe considerable rain and hail showers have caused damage.

Drought
The showers are very localized. This means that in certain areas, especially in the middle of the Netherlands, drought is becoming a problem. The weather problems do not only occur in the Netherlands, but a lot of rain has also fallen on the border of Belgium and France (in Picardy).

The hail has caused considerable damage to the potato plants in Drenthe.
