The potatoes on the 6,5 hectare plot in Biddinghuizen (AgroTechniek Holland) are looking good. Because the showers continued to pass along the plot, it was necessary to irrigate at the beginning of week 22. On Tuesday, May 29, 10 millimeters of rain fell, but that was only the second shower since planting.
Irrigation was necessary, because the foliage development is important during this period. Tuber setting is also on the way and when the soil is too dry, the plant will not grow enough tubers. Half of the plot had beets as pre-fruit and winter wheat for the other half. Half of the plot was turned up in early November and the other half was plowed.
planting work
The potatoes were planted on April 20, at a planting distance of 30,5 centimeters. This was done with a cup planter. The ridges were milled on April 23 with a full field of cutters. The soil consists of marine clay (25% silt) and has an organic matter content of 2,7% and a pH of 7,3.
Early in the spring, 500 kilos of potassium 60 per hectare were fertilized. Before planting, another 500 kilos of NPK (22% N) were spread and 450 kilos between planting and milling. The main photo shows that the Sencrop weather station has been placed.
