Farmer Grashoff leaves the House of Representatives

June 6, 2018 - Wouter Baan - 8 comments

Rik Grashoff, the agricultural leader of GroenLinks, is leaving the House of Representatives. The reason for his early departure is the fact that he lied about his relationship with party chairman Marjolein Meijer.

Last week it was announced that Grashoff and Meijer had been in a relationship for some time. Grashoff was initially allowed to stay on, because they both pleaded guilty. However, early this week it turned out that their statement was half the truth. The relationship already existed before the elections to the House of Representatives (March 2016), while both had initially stated that it had only arisen afterwards.

According to party leader Jesse Klaver, confidence in the party has been damaged. In response, both members tendered their resignations. Grashoff is now finished as agricultural spokesperson after he held that position since 2015. Before that he was party chairman.

Committed agricultural spokesperson
Grashoff was a committed agricultural spokesperson on behalf of GroenLinks, who did not hide his views. For example, he was in favor of a shrinking livestock and opponent of the use of glyphosate† In addition, Grashoff also found that it manure policy failed in the Netherlands.

Although Grashoff's views were not always well received by farmers, he was an agricultural spokesperson who generally had his file knowledge in good order. Grashoff is succeeded by Laura Bromet, who will be sworn in on Thursday, June 7. Bromet is a former alderman of the municipality of Waterland and in the past was also a journalist for the Noordhollands Dablad.

Tidy is tidy. If anyone had a political dual agenda with regard to livestock farming, it was this Grashoff.
But he will probably also show up again somewhere in a Green movement with antipathy towards livestock farming.

If you come from the left-wing camp, are you so social that you will not participate in the redundancy payment scheme? However?
Henk June 6, 2018
In any case, there should be no possibility to qualify for a redundancy pay scheme after fraud. If farmers do something wrong they get a big fine and no redundancy pay scheme..... right?

Did he screw up someone else? Or were he, and his free-range, both quite huntable?
He certainly had file knowledge, something that others often lack. He had in mind a different agriculture in the Netherlands, which was his right, and given the condition in which many people find themselves in agriculture, financially, psychologically or physically, this was not an unnecessary consideration.
Now the daughter of Frans? What if Dad would do some reports in his signature way about today's agriculture, funny but oh so effective. Always better than that bullshit (oh we got caught) by Yvonne J.
