Schouten: 'Reporting point for pinched farmers'

June 19, 2018 - Anne Jan Doorn - 16 comments

"There will be a reporting point where farmers can report anonymously that they are being pinched by supermarkets or other buyers of their products", agriculture minister Carola Schouten reports on NPO Radio 1. The reason for this is that Schouten believes it is important that farmers who produce more sustainably are there. also be paid for.

"The farmers are at the bottom of the chain and are the most vulnerable to the parties that pinch them," Schouten said in an interview with NPO Radio 1. Schouten said that it is difficult for farmers to tackle this problem themselves. "If they do, the buyer will soon be done with you." It wants to tackle the market power of large parties.

Minister Schouten was interviewed by NPO Radio 1 in response to the opinion poll 'The Farmer's Stateof Faith. One of the conclusions of this study is that farmers are dissatisfied with their advocates. They want a strong representation of their sector. Almost 80% of farmers declare themselves insufficiently represented to be felt by LTO Nederland.

Appreciation for the sector
Schouten wants to represent the agricultural sector well. She notices a lot of appreciation for Dutch agriculture abroad and wants to disseminate this to Dutch citizens. She therefore wants more respect for what Dutch agriculture has to offer. Schouten wants to help with a long-term vision and constant regulation.

Another conclusion from the survey is that more than 80% of farmers envision a future with more nature-friendly methods. It appears that Minister Schouten's vision is in line with this. Her motto for agriculture is that nature and agriculture belong together.

Less bulk production
The minister declined to answer the question of whether the Netherlands should stop producing for foreign countries. She still sees opportunities for export in flower exports. With regard to the arable sector and livestock farming, she wants less bulk production and more innovation.

Half of the farmers who participated in the survey agree. They believe that agricultural companies should no longer focus on exports, but should opt for 'nature-inclusive' agriculture. This requires 'cooperation' with nature.

Fewer dairy farms
When asked whether there will be fewer dairy farms in the Netherlands in the long term, Schouten answered cautiously; she wouldn't give a clear answer. She said that when it comes to sustainability, one should not only look at the number of animals.

However, she does expect that there will be fewer dairy farms, because it is becoming increasingly difficult to take over farms. She also said that both the larger and smaller companies should continue to exist. "Larger companies can also produce sustainably," she argued.

I think the most sustainable is, cows in the barn, all year round. Battery chickens and so on. Organic farming and the many star quality mark are certainly not sustainable, so explain what you want

Just make a reporting point for farmers who are being squeezed by the government

I had a conversation with a social worker today, it seems their job is not to provide help, but to justify everything that is crooked, so you only get there from the rain in the drop

Nice political story for the stage.
concretely, the weather doesn't add a pocket.
Let the politicians come up with a few more rules. Check some more and especially certify. Then the last farmer automatically switches off the light in a fairly short period of time.
But maybe this is the intent.

80% is not satisfied with the lto...... how could that be? maybe had a red card or the number of members counted incorrectly or more than the dairy farmers as to arable farmers or handled the fpsfaat file or gbm files or with the calf fraud and the manure fraud

And the show goes on. Wondering if we'll ever hear anything about this again, will probably end up in the bottom drawer. It's when you're worried about playing cards on the Titanic, we're better off focusing on more important things than hotlines without a mandate to actually act.

This is what makes you puke so slowly!!!! nice talk for the buhne, meanwhile help everything to the philistines

Only flowers export wtf? Then three quarters of Dutch agriculture can be transformed into nature. So soon no more income from natural gas and no more income from agriculture. Nice future here, time to leave I think.

What would it cost to set up such a hotline? If that NVvA fumbling with ICT is the standard, we will be at 50000 euros in no time.

Again such a telephone line for sure; "All our employees are talking (yes), you will be contacted as soon as possible. There are still 50.000 waiting for you"

What a disparaging idea from Schouten.Die pathetic farmers

But it's only because as farmers we apparently can't make bills ourselves and then to say our product costs just this ready. because if you continue in this way it will just stop. But yes, you will come out like a sector one day. because that's where your strength lies.

You have met and spoken to Carla a few times. Why fight the symptom again and not take the bull by the horns.
The sector can solve all the problems that society and politics have with the sector if we are given the space, or is that not the intention? Are the problems being used to get the sector where the politicians, for whatever reason, want us? The sector has been liberalized with subsidies and legislation and regulations. Don't want to have that feeling, but slowly start to see it more and more clearly.

Why, then, every year that whining and fuss about the payment entitlements and especially smaller farmers suffer as a result? Gets sick of it. What good officials Carola also has at the NVWA.
geert June 20, 2018
What a sweet treat, you can't do anything with this.

I don't think she needs to set up any reporting point because all farmers are already being squeezed
geert June 20, 2018
Carola's charm offensive for fraudulent dairy farmers, how many companies are still blocked?
