Beet campaign decision coming in mid-August

26 July 2018 - Anne Jan Doorn

Cosun will decide in mid-August whether the beet campaign will be postponed. The situation in the beet fields is closely monitored. Cosun estimates that the growth of the beets will lag behind at 200 to 300 kilos of sugar per hectare per week.

The dry and warm conditions lead to lower yields on average than earlier estimates indicated. The campaign planning is based on those estimates. In some cases, growth comes to a complete standstill, as the foliar apparatus stops functioning.

Assignment to 95%
Earlier this week it was announced that Cosun will probably use an allocation of 2019% for the 95 beet harvest. An allocation of 107% still applies for this year's harvest. The reason for the decision is the bad sugar market, but this can still change due to the drought.
