Animal feed manufacturer De Heus sets foot in Indonesia. The company announces that it is acquiring the Indonesian animal feed company Universal Agri Bisnisindo. This 'strategic entry' is in line with the strategy to further strengthen the position in Asia.
De Heus expects the demand for animal proteins in Southeast Asia to grow sharply in the coming years; as a result of income growth, population growth and change in consumer preferences. “The size of the animal feed market is expected to increase from 19 million tons to 22 million tons in 2022,” the company said.
Ideal base
"With an annual volume of 300.000 tons in poultry, fish and shrimp feed, Universal forms an ideal basis for De Heus to build a leading market position in Indonesia," says Koen de Heus, CEO of Koninklijke de Heus.
The acquisition is not the first step for the company in Southeast Asia. In 2009, De Heus acquired an animal feed company in Vietnam. In 2018, De Heus, with 8 factories strategically spread across the country, is one of the top 3 companies in the Vietnamese animal feed industry.
