Adult New Holland T5 houses CVT transmission

29 October 2018 - Niels van der Boom - 2 comments

New Holland is launching a new tractor series at Eima, Italy: the T5 Auto Command. It most closely resembles its big brother, the T6. This makes the tractor suddenly a lot more mature. Big news is the continuously variable transmission (CVT).

It is no secret that the CNH group aspires to a light four-cylinder with stepless transmission. An Auto Command version has been talked about since the launch of the T5 in 2013. That's what New Holland calls the CNH CVT box. However, first followed an Electro Command electronically switched powershift gearbox.

More and more photos of the new T5 series are floating around on Facebook and websites. New Holland itself has not released anything yet, except for a photo of the hood. This shows the model T5.140, with the Auto Command badge adorning the nose in Blue Power version.

3 models
According to the Italian Tractor, who is usually well informed, the T5 AC consists of 3 models with 100, 120 and 140 hp power. According to their data, under this hood is a 4,5 liter NEF Tier 5 engine. The T6's Horizon cab gives the tractor a more mature appearance. This lifts the T5 from livestock farming to arable farming. There it can compete with the Fendt 300 Vario, John Deere 5R and Massey Ferguson 5700-S.

Arable segment
In the Benelux, among others, more and more arable farmers are looking for a tractor with a lot of power, stepless transmission and a low curb weight on high tires. It can be used year round. According to data, the T5.140 weighs 5.800 kilos bare, the maximum tire size is 480/65R28 at the front and 600/65R38 at the rear. Both cabin and front axle have suspension and a front linkage with PTO is available ex works. The manufacturer can already supply RTK GPS on the current T5 ex works.

A relatively low weight, high tires and CVT transmission should make the T5 a mature arable tractor.

Case IH Versum
The Eima will start on November 7 in Bologna and will last until November 11, when all the details will become clear. At the Case IH booth you should find the Versum CVX; the red version of the T5. The current model is called Luxxum. There is no mention of a Steyr version. Rumors report that it should be available from summer 2019. Those who prefer the 8-speed automated full powershift transmission Dynamic Command will have to wait another 2 years.

Isn't that very heavy, a short maxxum 4 cyl. Weighs 5600kg on large culture wheels. Hope that's a mistake.

Just put them on the weighbridge, nowadays a tractor with 4 kernels and CVt weighs just 6 tons. Was 15 tons 4.5 years ago. Back then it cost 65k, now 90k.
Fortunately, everything can be paid per month these days.
