Agricultural exports set new record

18 January 2019 - Wouter Baan - 12 comments

In 2018, the Netherlands exported a record amount of €90,3 billion worth of agricultural goods. This makes our country the largest agricultural exporter in the world after the United States.

Compared to the previous export record (which dates from 2017) agricultural exports show an increase of 0,2%, as calculated by Statistics Netherlands and Wageningen Economic Research. This means that exports are leveling off after years of growth. Almost 75% of the export value is Dutch-made. The agricultural sector accounts for 18,2% of total Dutch goods exports.

Dairy and meat in top 3
The floriculture sector represents (€9,2 billion) the highest value in agricultural exports. The export value of flowers and plants increased by 3%. Dairy and egg exports are in second place, with a combined value of €2 billion.

Within dairy exports, sales of baby milk powders to China increased strongly; it is even it largest export product that the Netherlands sells in China. The export value of meat (€8,1 billion) completes the stage.

Neighboring countries important
Our neighboring countries are the main destinations for agricultural exports. The export value to Germany amounts to €22,8 billion; this is 25% of the total export value. Belgium, the United Kingdom and France follow in place 2, 3 and 4.

The import of agricultural goods for 2018 is estimated at €61,4 billion. Compared to 2017, this is an increase of 0,5%. This brings the agricultural trade surplus to €28,8 billion.

Is a lot of re-export. No Dutch production.

The net trade surplus is just under 30 billion, which is about 60% of the total Dutch goods trade surplus!
And then a number of parties want to clean this up, the gas tap also closed and the whole of the Netherlands except for the Hague Plush in the begging staff!
You'll just have to have it from the broad field of view of the politicians!

Production is dirty, not appreciated. They think what comes from far is better these days, and politicians? apparently they implement what the people want, at least I hear and see no resistance to the removal of farmers, on the contrary, it is encouraged.

according to the minister Carola, we must move towards circular agriculture. Then first stop the import of 61,4 billion euros, mostly soy and grain.

As long as our national Schiphol cannot or will not comply with the cycle, why do we have to comply with it, after all, this stops with the citizen who goes on holiday by plane or car no less than 3 times a year and drives to work with his car every day. .
Farmers walk to work.

cycle = 100% self-sufficient, no more than 500%.
So: end of greenhouse horticulture, end of tree/plant cultivation. End of seed potatoes, onions.
End chicken, egg, milk, beef,
End pig.
Do you produce using import?
Do you export? (or your customer with your products?)
Then it's over!

Recycling is actually the beginning of the bankruptcy of BV NL.
The population is emigrating VERY QUICKLY to those parts of the world where it is not communist.

Bertus I am very happy with the performance from our agriculture in the broadest sense and hope we can continue to say this also for 2019 . But I do feel the hot breath on our necks from all the regulations that are becoming too much for many. Especially the CO2 story, of which we have been the biggest cleaner for years, is not mentioned enough, if a few calves do not have the right numbers, the world is turned upside down and the farmers are the biggest fraudsters, but if holiday flights are made where a very large CO2 emission per person takes place, that is the most normal thing in the world and that should simply be possible.
And if a farmer has to produce more to keep his costs under control, he gets the greatest resistance from that same holiday citizen. We farmers would certainly like to see a little more respect for all the efforts we make for the almost 30 billion in income for our country, from which we as a Dutchman have to pay for our foreign car, etc.
