New setup DCA listing Baalprijs Onions©

12 May 2019

LELYSTAD – As of February 1, the Baalprijs Onions will be drawn up and managed by DCA-Groep BV under the name DCA-Markets. This means that this listing is drawn up according to the same principles as, for example, the DCA Stock Price for pigs, spot milk, manure and phosphate rights. These principles are based on the European Rules on Benchmarks.

Weekly on Friday, the bale price of yellow onions, class two, in the size classes 35-50 mm and 45-65 mm, 50-70 mm, 60-80 mm and larger than 80 mm. The specifications of the listing are hereby precisely described. In this way, the market knows exactly what quality product is involved and what the delivery conditions are.

It concerns the bale price of onions collected from a Dutch sorter/packer. DCA-Markets collects the prices from market parties (contributors) who report their trade in the previous seven days in the relevant type, size and quality. The 'from-to' prices are averaged to the final benchmark price; the bale price quotation of that week. This will be published per size class on Friday afternoon at 13:30 via the platform of Boerenbusiness.NL. This together with a short explanation, the range of the contributor price for that week and the associated number of observations.

René van 't Riet of DCA-Markets: 'Our quotations are important benchmarks for the sector. They provide information about physical trade, but are also increasingly used as the yardstick by which parties conclude and settle contracts with each other. The interests here are therefore great. That is also the reason that, about a year ago, we decided to follow a number of important principles from EU regulation that apply to important benchmarks such as the Euribor rates. As a result, parties know exactly what our DCA quotations entail and according to which procedures they are established. Transparency and verifiability increase the reliability and therefore the importance of all our quotations'.
