Plots receive rainfall with open arms

12 July 2019 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

On Wednesday 10, Thursday 11 and Friday 12 July, precipitation fell in almost all of the Netherlands. Rain is very welcome for all plots of the Crop Tour. Especially in the east of the Netherlands, the rain is welcomed with open arms. At the beginning of the week, the situation was critical on plots where it is not possible to irrigate, and now seems to be getting some air.

22 millimeters fell on the plot in Goor in the past three days. The beginning of the week was still very dry on this plot. As a result, the crop started to grow back, but that now seems to be changing. The crop will of course no longer recover completely, but the precipitation that has fallen will contribute to tuber setting.

Most precipitation fell on the plot in Spijk en Voorst, where 23 millimeters fell in recent days. The plot in Spijk had already been irrigated once. The potato crop seems very grateful for the rain of the past few days.

The plot in Voorst has now been irrigated 3 times, the last time in the past three days. It is expected that the rain, together with the sprinkling, will be sufficient to moisten the deeper layer as well.

Growing weather
The weather of the past few days is favorable for the growth of the potato crops. Especially after the rain showers, the moisture lingers. The Sencrop weather poles also measure the humidity. On some plots, a humidity of more than 95% is even measured on Friday.
