The poster about the impact of drinking on the climate that Milieu Centraal published earlier this week makes no sense. The Agri Facts Foundation (STAF) has requested an open rectification.
Drinking enough during the heat is important. Which thirst quencher you choose saves a sip on a drink for the climate', says Milieu Centraal. From the accompanying poster According to the environmental advisor, it appears that latte, coffee with extra milk, is 'the steak among the drinks'.
Weekly footprint
STAF concludes that nothing about the poster is correct. 'A light should have gone on at Milieu Centraal immediately, when it turned out that all drinks on the poster together have a weekly footprint of less than 2 kilos of CO2. A week of eating and drinking is associated with a footprint of about 25-30 kilos of CO2 per person, of which drinking has a share of about 20 percent.'
Imports not taken into account
Inquiries were made at Milieu Centraal about the sources on which the organization relied. The picture is that Milieu Centraal has disregarded the CO2 caused abroad (in the case of imported products, such as coffee and wine). It also seems that Milieu Centraal has assumed a daily consumption of 1 liter of drinks instead of 2 liters.
STAF has sent its findings and calculations to Milieu Centraal and requested the organization to openly rectify the incorrect information.
