Solar panels produce a lot of electricity and are therefore very interesting with an SDE+ subsidy. This subsidy is intended to stimulate the production of sustainable energy. A solar panel owner is compensated for the difference between the cost price of gray (fossil) energy and that of sustainable energy for a period of 15 years.
With an SDE+ subsidy for solar panels, an entrepreneur can receive a maximum of 9,9 eurocents in subsidy per generated kilowatt hour. In addition, he saves on his electricity bill and can sell the excess energy produced to his energy company. So he earns three times money:
Calculation example
Here are two simple calculation examples of a farmer with 1.500 m² and 4.500 m² roof area.
| Example 1 | Example 2 | |
| Number of m2 roof area | 1.500 m2 | 4.500 m2 |
| Annual consumption kWh | 100.000 kWh | 250.000 kWh |
| SDE+ subsidy in 15 years | € 202.500 | € 613.500 |
| Electricity bill savings in 15 years | € 109.500 | € 264.000 |
| Sell green electricity in 15 years | € 145.500 | € 453.000 |
| Total revenue | € 457.500 | € 1.330.500 |
| Cost of solar panels | € 187.000 | € 560.000 |
Terms & conditions
In fact, that is easy money. That is why more and more solar panels are appearing on farms and flat roofs. Of course there are conditions. On the one hand, those conditions become slightly stricter every year, on the other hand, the Dutch government wants to goals for sustainable energy in 2020 and 2030.
Any entrepreneur can apply for a subsidy. In 2019, there is still one opening round: from October 29 to November 14. Does the entrepreneur receive a subsidy? Then his solar panels must be installed within a certain time (often 1,5 years).
Free advice and subsidy application
An entrepreneur can apply for a subsidy from the RVO himself or authorize another company to make the application. Energy Shift is such a company, an experienced solar panel installer with a focus on the agricultural sector. The company has already supplied and installed more than 600 solar panel installations in the Netherlands, many of which with an SDE+ subsidy. The entire process from subsidy application to installation of the panels is taken care of.

These farmers produce their own electricity every day and receive subsidies for this:
Paul Pronk – Arable farmer, De Goorn
"I would like to be energy neutral, but also think about my wallet."
Simon Oostveen – Fruit grower, Maurik
"Price-wise, solar panels are very interesting for us."
Family Rijkers – Poultry and pig farm, Vessem
"Our goal: to obtain maximum subsidy and save as much as possible on electricity costs."
