Vion will provide the participants of the first edition of the 'Tour de Dumoulin', the event of the Dutch cycling champion Tom Dumoulin, with meat products. As a food partner of the event, Vion says it wants to emphasize the importance of a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
Out of his love for cycling and the development of youth, Tom Dumoulin, the best cyclist in the Netherlands and winner of the Tour of Italy in 2917, initiated the Tour de Dumoulin. The event will take place on 6 October with start and finish on the Markt in Maastricht. There is a program for youth (up to 14 years) and a tour (from 15 years) of 75, 125 and 175 kilometers on challenging routes that Dumoulin has put together himself.
The participants in the youth program receive a healthy breakfast and lunch with meat products from the organic brand De Groene Weg. The tour riders are served a lunch with organic meat products afterwards. “After all, good protein in the diet is crucial,” says Dumoulin.
Cycling as inspiration
By organizing the event, the cyclist wants to inspire participants to exercise, follow a healthy lifestyle and contribute to sporting ambitions and growth. According to Vion, this idea fits in well with the company and its customers. “Cycling is a major sport in the Netherlands and provides inspiration to get people to exercise more and with pleasure, and healthy eating contributes to this. Together we are committed to a sporty future for everyone”, says Nancy Aschman, Director of Communications and Sustainability at Vion.
The signing of the partnership took place at the Van Karsveld farm in Gulpen, Limburg. The farm has been working with Vion for four generations and was named one of the 2016 most sustainable barns in the Netherlands in terms of animal welfare, nature and the environment in 10.
