Binnenhof target of new farmers' protest

8 October 2019 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 15 comments

The Binnenhof in The Hague is one of the targets of the farmers' action group Farmers Defense Force. The group announced this on social media on Tuesday, October 8. A new farmers' protest is planned for Wednesday 16 October.

In addition to the Binnenhof, where Dutch politics is located, Farmers Defense Force also targets the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). RIVM is located in Bilthoven. Mark van den Oever, the founder of Farmers Defense Force, has announced the 2 locations on Facebook.

Corrupt government
Farmers Defense Force released Monday, October 7 know to plan a new action. It was said that the group wanted to tackle the 'corrupt government'. That is why we chose RIVM, which is responsible for (incorrect) measurement of nitrogen emissions. Farmers Defense Force said earlier that it also wanted to tackle the real polluters. Then there were noises about a blockade of Tata Steel in IJmuiden. A spokesperson told Boerenbusiness however, know that this location is not on the schedule.

There was much talk in the media about actions at Schiphol airport. Farmers Defense Force rejects this one, however. It did, however, already know at the time that it would protest in the Randstad. In addition to farmers, the group also hopes for support from citizens and other professional groups (such as fishermen).

Nitrogen plans
After the farmers' protest on Tuesday 1 October in The Hague, Farmers Defense Force and Agractie gave politicians an ultimatum of 4 weeks to revalue the Dutch agricultural sector. However, on October 4, the  planning from the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality, which shows that livestock farming must nevertheless shrink. That went down the wrong way for many.

It is not the first time that farmers are targeting the Binnenhof. During the peasant protest in the year 1990 this historic place in The Hague was also full of tractors. Tractors were even parked on the stairs.

It is the duty of every farmer to strike against the oppression of this corrupt mafia in The Hague.

Necessity knows no law!

This is getting completely out of hand. The moderate farmers will not protest again in 2 weeks so it is the extreme action prepared farmers who are coming. It is also not public-friendly, so the question is whether the sector as a whole has been helped by it.

First of all, who came up with that horrible name Farmers Defense Force. It sounds like a right-wing extremist club to me and many Utrecht farmers...

Second, this demonstration will only damage the sector. This is just plain rudeness at its best. Screaming for attention, but not having a good counterplan.

Go really public-friendly campaigning; hand out flowers, milk, cheese cubes, sausage, apples, etc. produced in the Netherlands, collect even more tractors for poor kids, go help in the retirement home or at school (like we are probably gaining experience in other sectors because we have to retraining), organize excursions on the farm (because it is still possible now) and all under one name. Then you really get society involved. Looking forward to the responses

@ Worried Farmer. Good plan. Start with your wonderful idea I would say. Then we drive to The Hague as a supporting citizen.
Proud to be a farmer 9 October 2019
We have used a tourist walking, cycling route. We could see from the slaughter people which parts the Dutch came. The Westerners had no eye for nature and farming life.

My husband and I once took the cows in and they had to cross the road, so people had to wait. Then I got the question whether we let the cows inside, because of the heat. I said no, we imitate them indoors because they are milked. Well they looked at me as if they could hear the bell in Cologne. And then there comes another question, how often do you do that? Answer twice a day, well she almost fell over with surprise. And some time later a young man in his late twenties early thirties comes with his 2-year-old son and he saw the cows in the stable and I hear that father say to his son from those black cows comes milk and from the brown comes chocolate milk. Well then you proverbially break your clog.

And if you start talking to people and you tell the whole story, then they really understand. And then agriculture is not the major polluter.

I now ask the citizen whether they are willing to drive 1500 km of car on an annual basis or go on holiday, can they stick to it? If not, they are obliged to get it from another Dutch person. No citizen does that quickly. If agriculture wants something, we have to do it or if we exceed the phosvate quota, we will be fined heavily. That is not the case with citizens.

And agriculture is only shrinking. We are still only 1% of the Dutch population, more and more people have joined the Netherlands, so more cars, long traffic jams, Schiphol became increasingly large with more flying hours. And then to put the nitrogen policy on the plate with us as agriculture. And every left-wing raker who believes what is said in The Hague and who believes what the RMIV says, but 4 times on holiday by plane. We farmers are fed up. We don't want to be treated like criminals. We work hard for our sandwich, while a burger likes to start at 9.00 a.m. and stop working at 3.00 a.m., while we have a work week of 60 to 70 hours a week. And that 24/7 for 365 days. And then we are not allowed to let you hear from us. Fuck the duck.

@worried farmer's wife: don't you think this kind of sweet actions has been held for too long? Will you also show your administration to show that you are doing well? It's all mashing up and getting wet and the politicians are laughing at us. The policy is made in The Hague, that is what the protest should be aimed at. There have already been calls for citizens, transport companies, fisheries, etc. to come and participate and that willingness is there. The action of 1 October will have been in vain now.

all the lovely farmers and farmers, there is really no one who realizes that the game has been played for a long time!
a few years ago it started with more sustainable, more transparent. Then came circular agriculture.
we are much too late, things that are done do not count, such as the judge's ruling on nitrogen policy! if we continue to demonstrate, the image will certainly not be good at all. conclusion or continue on their terms.

Hahaha, proud to be a farmer. What rock have you crawled out from under? Hahaha, a 70 hour work week. Don't make me laugh. Judging by your language, you've been smoking incredibly or maybe you've taken that new party drug Ketamine. Hahaha I hope you respond soon. I'm already looking forward to your new contribution, or have you crawled back under your rock?
