After their Dutch and French colleagues, farmers in Germany are also taking to the streets to protest. Tuesday, October 22, they occupied 16 cities with their tractors. It is especially busy in Bonn, because part of the German agriculture ministry is housed here.
1.000 tractors and 10.000 protesting farmers are expected in Bonn alone, so writes Top Agrar. About 100.000 farmers in Germany are said to have been reached via Whatsapp to participate in the demonstrations. There is also a lot of sympathy for the farmers' campaigns on Facebook.
Ministers not present
Agriculture Minister Julia Klöcker and Svenja Schulze, Minister of the Environment and Nature Conservation, said earlier that they would speak at the protests, but they have canceled. Klöckner did, however, support the protests with words on the German channel ZDF: "Farmers are held responsible for everything and that is not fair. Citizens must become more aware of the role of the farmer. Conversely, farmers must become more aware of the critical consumer."
Farmers with their tractors can be seen all over the country today. From Schleswig-Holstein to Bavaria and from Lower Saxony to Brandenburg. The police take into account a lot of traffic nuisance as a result of the thousands of tractors on the road.
