Coöperatie CZAV has completed the sale of its Agrimarkt supermarkets, including the real estate locations, to Jumbo on Thursday 31 October. With this transaction, Jumbo has acquired all six Agrimarkt supermarkets in the southwest of the Netherlands. The amount has not been disclosed.
The take over was previously announced by both parties† Jumbo has now announced that four Agrimarkt supermarkets will be transformed into Jumbo. These are the shops in Roosendaal, Vlissingen, Middelharnis and Goes. The supermarket in Goes is being converted into a so-called Jumbo Food Market.
The Agrimarkt supermarkets in Terneuzen and Oud-Beijerland will not remain in the hands of Jumbo. The Brabant family business sells these directly on to competitor Lidl, who will undoubtedly convert them. The reason for this resale has not been disclosed, but it almost certainly has to do with the presence of a Jumbo supermarket in these places.
Great shopping locations
Jumbo is making haste with the transformation, because the Agrimarkt stores will be closed from tomorrow. From week 47, the stores must be reopened. Then the Agrimarkt will disappear completely as a brand name. “For Jumbo, this is a special acquisition that we are very proud of,” said Ton van Veen, Jumbo's CFO, in a statement. “All of these are excellent retail locations, with customers who attach great value to homegrown products. This preference is completely in line with our approach. We therefore maintain the local character of the stores as much as possible, including items in the Garden and Animal category."
