A farmer without trekkers is like a pilot without a plane. Given the considerable investment, it is wise to insure the tractor properly. This is basically required by law. In addition, check which additions are relevant to your situation.
It is required by law to insure motor vehicles according to the Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance Act (WAM). This legal liability (WA) therefore also applies to tractors. The owner of a tractor is obliged to take out liability insurance. With this insurance, the damage that you make with a vehicle to people and other people's belongings is covered. If the farmer damages his own working equipment with the tractor or the tractor itself sustains damage, this is not covered by the third-party liability insurance.
Limited airframe or all-risk
In addition to the third-party liability insurance, a limited hull can also be taken out. This covers damage to the tractor caused by fire and explosion, theft and burglary, storm, hail, crossing animals and window damage. An all-risk insurance is even more extensive, this covers all damage to the tractor. Also damage that the driver accidentally applied.
If you have a hobby tractor, oldtimer or unimog, these must also be insured in any case. After all, according to the law, a motor vehicle is any vehicle that can propel itself motorized and has a drive on wheels. Tractor insurance must also be taken out for this.
Other than car
A tractor insurance policy has the same principle as a car insurance† However, it is not possible to take out car insurance for a tractor. To determine the amount of the insurance premium for a tractor, the engine power, maximum speed and what it is used for, for example for agricultural contract work or on your own company, are looked at, among other things. These matters are not important when taking out insurance for the car.

Some farmers assume that it is not necessary to have insurance on their own property and that third-party insurance is only mandatory for use on public roads. That is not correct, you are also obliged to take out insurance with the tractor on your own property. It can just happen that during the work two tractors collide with each other on your own property. In that case, the third-party liability coverage of the tractor that caused damage must compensate the damage.
