Angry French farmers paralyze Paris

In the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, about 1.000 trekkers moved to Paris from northern and central France. The farmers protest against the bad working climate. They think that they earn too little.

It is not the first time that French farmers have taken to the streets, because in the past 3 months the farmers have already 4 times protested. However, this is their first time going to Paris. The reason the farmers travel to the capital is mainly symbolic. This is because this is where the heart of French politics is located.

The 1.000 tractors have caused considerable nuisance in various parts of France; parts of the French capital are even blocked. The ring road is also fixed. Despite the traffic jams, the farmers expect support from the French. "Half of the French land is owned by farmers and is used for the agricultural sector. Most French people know that farmers are important, also economically, so they show a lot of sympathy for the farmers," says Frank Renout, correspondent of the NOS.

Unlike Dutch farmers, the demonstrators did not go to the capital for nitrogen problems. The problem is that French agricultural organizations state that 1 in 3 farmers earn less than €350 net per month. In addition, the average income has also fallen by 30% in recent years.
