The last opening round for the SDE+ subsidy will start in March 2020. It is the last chance for entrepreneurs to obtain a subsidy under the current conditions. After this round, the government will come up with plans for the more extensive SDE++ scheme.
The SDE+ subsidy (Stimulation of Sustainable Energy Production) is intended for the development of renewable energy sources in the Netherlands. This will be the last round with which the government wants to boost this development. The SDE+ scheme includes, among other things, the categories biomass, geothermal energy, water, wind and solar. The government is making €2 billion available for this subsidy round.
Energy price
Entrepreneurs can earn or save money in 3 ways by using the SDE+ scheme. Firstly, an entrepreneur saves on his own electricity bill. Secondly, the generated power that is not intended for own use can be sold to the energy supplier. Thirdly, the entrepreneur receives a subsidy per kWh generated. The SDE+ scheme reimburses the difference between the cost price of sustainable energy and the market value of the energy supplied. As a result, the amount of the subsidy depends on the energy price. With a high energy price, the subsidy is lower, but the entrepreneur receives more from the energy consumer, and vice versa. The new opening round for SDE+ applications runs from 17 March to 2 April 2020.
SDE++ in the fall
This is the last SDE+ round under the current conditions. The new SDE++ scheme is expected to be introduced in the autumn of 2020. This concerns an expansion of the current SDE+ scheme. In addition to the current possibilities for renewable energy production, there will also be the possibility to receive a subsidy for technologies in the field of CO2emission reduction. With this, the cabinet wants to achieve the target of 49% CO2boost emissions reductions for 2030. The exact conditions for the SDE++ scheme are not yet known. It is expected that this scheme will be opened once a year. This is in contrast to the SDE+ subsidy, which has been made available twice a year in recent years.
