More than 60% of the pig farmers who have registered for the remediation scheme come from North Brabant. This is reported by the Province of Noord-Brabant based on figures from the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV).
This concerns a total of 305 pig farmers from Brabant who are interested in the so-called warm remediation. In total have 503 pig farms signed in. It is no surprise that the majority come from North Brabant. The wide interest in the scheme was already apparent from an earlier inventory in various municipalities. Interest is also high in Limburg and the east of the Netherlands, with 102 and 96 applications respectively.
Shortage budget
The registration period for participation in the Subsidy Scheme for the Remediation of Pig Farms (Srv) closed on 15 January. Then it became clear that the scheme is massive oversubscribed† With the current budget of €180 million, about 300 pig farms can probably close.
Agriculture deputy Anne-Marie Spierings of the Province of Noord-Brabant hopes that the government will make extra money available for the remediation. “For farmers, it is an emotional decision to stop their business. I want as many pig farmers as possible who have applied to have the opportunity to enter a new future.”
