It is conceivable that the announced maximum crude protein percentage in compound feed will not reduce nitrogen emissions on balance, but increase it and lead to bottlenecks. That says interest group Nevedi.
After all, the ration largely consists of roughage instead of compound feed. The livestock farmer himself mainly influences the roughage composition, but the options for adjusting with compound feed are limited by setting a maximum to the crude protein percentage in compound feed. This can lead to health problems, decreases in production and balances and, as a result, an increase in nitrogen emissions. The Agricultural Collective has also pointed this out to the Minister.
Depositable calculations
According to Nevedi, however, the ministry has been guided in its considerations by the question of whether ammonia reduction at ration level is sufficiently measurable and can be adequately covered with a good assurance system. The ministry also doubted whether the translation could be made from there to development space that could be booked in Aerius, the 'calculation tool for the living environment'.
However, it is unclear to Nevedi how a measure at ration level cannot and can be included in Aerius at compound feed level. The minister only opts for the most suitable alternative for her and for the time being is ignoring the proposed approach of the Agricultural Collective. In the eyes of Nevedi, this approach with options for feed, manure and/or grazing measures is many times cheaper and more effective.
House of Representatives debate
Nevedi is now focusing on the political debate in the House of Representatives about the letter sent to parliament by the minister on this subject and is awaiting with great interest the exact content and legal basis of the announced measure. Nevedi will continue to provide technical support to the Agricultural Collective and will closely follow this initiated trajectory of the minister politically and legally.
