The Central Organization for the Meat Sector (COV) has received signals that China wants to monitor Dutch slaughterhouses through cameras, to see how the corona prevention measures are being complied with. This in response to the Chinese export ban on pork.
A spokesperson for the COV says that the meat ban, which applies to Vion (Boxtel and Groenlo), Van Rooi and Westfort (Gorinchem), is in any case related to the corona virus. "That's for sure." According to him, there are 2 options: Whether China wants to know whether the prevention measures taken by Dutch slaughterhouses are being complied with.
Another option is that China suspects that the coronavirus survives on meat products and therefore takes precautions. "Scientific research indicates that the latter is not the case."
Camera Surveillance
To tackle the first problem, China would like to remotely monitor the slaughter process in our country through cameras. The spokesperson says that such a request has been lodged in Denmark. The Danish slaughter giant Danish Crown also has to deal with an export ban. If the meat ban is revoked by China when it comes to CCTV surveillance, Dutch slaughterhouses will comply, the spokesperson said.
