The MH spraying this year may be more difficult than other years due to the double crop. The position is not even, so growers have to make a choice that can result in the smaller onions receiving MH spraying too early.
Be careful when spraying MH at high temperatures. There are currently quite a few plots that are being harvested, especially of the earlier varieties. It is advisable to wait a while before MH spraying now that high temperatures are expected. Experience shows that the chance of the crop dying off quickly is very high and that is exactly something we do not want.
Dual-use makes for a difficult choice
"Choose the generous middle ground, the weather influences make the MH spraying more specific than ever". Tells André Boot from Hazera Boerenbusiness† "The rule is that growers carry out an MH spraying when 10% of the plot is spreading. Due to the two-vehicle this year, I recommend that growers go to the plot together with their PPP advisor to determine when MH should be sprayed" .
