These 4 finalists compete for the Agribusiness Award

27 October 2020 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

This year, the jury of the Agribusiness Award nominated 4 companies with their product or service. Today we will announce the finalists in random order. Who can count themselves among the nominees this year?

MSD Animal Health with the Porcilis Lawsonia vaccine

Boerenbusiness congratulates MSD Animal Health as a nominee for the Agribusiness Award. The company has submitted the Porcilis Lawsonia vaccine for the Award 2020. This is the first-ever injectable vaccine against this disease. MSD says it is proud that a product from Dutch soil is currently conquering Europe. "The disease costs pig farmers on average 2-5 euros per fattening pig due to poorer feed conversion, lower growth and (acute) loss of pigs, especially (almost) ready for slaughter," the company explains in the notification. With this vaccine, MSD is aiming for a higher profit on the pig farm and a lower use of antibiotics.

The jury also sees market potential in this product: "The jury is of the opinion that you have done a particularly good job developing such a vaccine. It is an important health problem in pig farming. Yield for the farmer and market potential for the vaccine seem therefore guaranteed. Congratulations on your nomination!", said jury chairman Aalt Dijkhuizen.

Limagrain with the mobile LG lab

Boerenbusiness congratulates Limagrain as a nominee for the Agribusiness Award. The company has registered the mobile LG lab for the Award 2020. According to Limagrain, this briefcase full of advanced measuring equipment is a technological tour de force that has been developed in-house in Rilland. It is a practical translation of equipment for test field machines, but compact and handy for use in farming practice. The grass analyzes from the lab provide farmers with valuable data about the progress of their grass quality. And that provides important information to get even more milk from your own grass and to make better use of your own protein: "a hot item these days", according to Limagrain.

The jury also sees opportunities in this innovation: "The jury is of the opinion that you have developed a very clever and particularly relevant innovation," said jury chairman Aalt Dijkhuizen. "Up-to-date information about the composition and quality of grass and roughage is becoming increasingly important with the entire nitrogen problem. In that regard, your mobile grass lab has a good future ahead of it. Congratulations on your nomination!"

Koppert Biological Systems with the Natutec Drone

Boerenbusiness congratulates Koppert Biological Systems as nominee for the Agribusiness Award. The company has registered the Natutec Drone for the Award 2020. This system uses drones to introduce predatory mites and insects into agricultural crops in order to combat diseases and pests. This system is able to accurately bring live predatory mites and insects onto the crop so that they can combat the pest in the crop. "The drone is 20 times faster than the traditional manual method of spreading", Koppert describes in the notification. "With the Natutec Drone, Koppert offers the solution to dose biological crop protection effectively and efficiently on the crop, with the aim of improving plant health."

The jury sees potential in this innovation: "The jury is of the opinion that this is a wonderful innovation. By combining your existing knowledge about biological control in the greenhouse with modern technology for application options in the field, a large and promising market within reach. Congratulations on your nomination!", said jury chairman Aalt Dijkhuizen.

Lely with the Lely Orbiter

Boerenbusiness congratulates Lely as nominee for the Agribusiness Award. Lely has registered the Orbiter for the Award of 2020. With this automatic processing system, the dairy farmer can process the milk directly on the dairy farm, without the intervention of a dairy factory. Together with the Orbiter comes the 'My Milk platform'. "This makes the lives of the cow, the farmer and the consumer better," the company said in the notification. "Cows can come and go as they please and farmers receive a higher reward for their hard work."

The professional jury is very pleased with the Orbiter. "The jury particularly appreciates the fact that you have developed an innovation that does not focus on greater productivity or efficiency, but on more added value of products on the farm," said jury chairman Aalt Dijkhuizen. "From anonymous product to 'my milk'. That responds perfectly to an increasing demand in the market. Congratulations on your nomination!"
