Tyson expands meat branch in the Netherlands

19 November 2020 - Wouter Baan

The American Tyson Foods is going to significantly expand the poultry meat production location in Oosterwolde (Friesland). There are also plans for growth elsewhere in the world.

The intention is to scale up the production capacity of cooked poultry meat by 100.000 tons per year, partly by expanding the site in Oosterwolde. Tyson Foods took over this factory from the Brazilian BRF last year. In this deal, a meat factory was also acquired in Wales, but that location has since been closed.

Tyson Foods has very different plans for the factory in Oosterwolde. The additional employment associated with the expansion plans is a welcome bonus for our country. It is expected that 150 additional jobs will be created.

Growing world population
Tyson Foods feels supported in its growth plans by the growing world population and higher revenues. The demand for animal proteins will therefore increase in the coming years, according to the expectations of the second largest meat group in the world. Tyson Foods will also build new factories in China and Thailand, it has been announced.
