Nitrogen law not declared controversial

2 February 2021 - Linda van Eekeres

Today (Tuesday) the Senate has not declared the Nitrogen Act controversial, as PVV, PvdD, FVD, SGP and Fractie-Van Pareren had proposed (supported by Fractie-Otten).

This means that the Nitrogen Reduction and Nature Improvement Bill will be discussed. Incidentally, not on February 23 as originally planned. The Agriculture Committee had indicated that it needed more time. It is not yet known when the Nitrogen Act will be discussed by the Senate. The intention is for the elections to the House of Representatives.

The President of the Senate only presents proposals to be declared controversial in the plenary meeting if they can count on a majority in the Senate after the inventory has been made. If at a later date a majority still emerges for declaring the Nitrogen Act controversial, that is still possible.
