CZAV closes year with €2,3 million profit

5 February 2021 - Jurphaas Lugtenburg

The CZAV cooperative closed the 2019/2020 financial year with a profit of â2,3 million. Turnover decreased by €26 million to €419 million. This is partly due to the fact that this is the first financial year after the sale of Agrimarkt. Relatively low fertilizer prices and less sales of crop protection products due to relatively low disease pressure last season also play a role.

Despite the corona crisis and adjusted for the sale of Agrimarkt and the purchase of Cebeco Granen, the result of the cooperative is approximately the same as in the previous financial year. The sale of fuels by Agrisneltank has been affected by the corona crisis. The oil price was relatively low and less fuel was sold due to many working from home.

This financial year, â800.000 has been paid out to the members as an abbreviation. Over the next 3 years, the CZAV will pay out â5 million to its members. This year the first €1,5 million will be paid out.

Sustainable entrepreneurship remains the theme
Sustainable entrepreneurship remains an important theme and CZAV wants to support the growers in this. The cooperative has 4 directions in which it wants to develop further in the coming years. Knowledge and product, data, minerals and organic matter and protein transition.

The cooperative has been working with Integrated Crop Management (ICM) for a long time. The aim is to achieve more yield per hectare with less impact on the environment. The use of crop protection products is under pressure. In anticipation of any stricter regulations, the CZAV is running pilots in which it is experimenting with other cultivation methods with less use of crop protection products. In this way, the organization expands the knowledge and data to be able to respond to future developments.

Historically a lot of organic manure
Last year, the CZAV traded 700.000 tons of organic fertilizer. That is a historically high level for the cooperative. Finding a balance between the supply of minerals and organic matter from organic fertilizers and fertilizers is becoming increasingly important for farmers. The protein transition is a long-term goal. CZAV already has extensive experience in the cultivation of brown beans, for example, and the acreage among growers in the working area has been expanded in recent years. Depending on market demand and the elaboration of the national protein strategy, there may be opportunities here.
