The number of IPOs is increasing. For example, it was recently announced that Deliveroo is considering an IPO and Coolblue is also thinking about taking the step. The Amsterdam stock exchange in particular can expect a positive year. That's what Paul Huysmans and Maarten Blomme of ABN Amro say in De Telegraaf.
According to the British news channel Sky, food delivery company Deliveroo is announcing an IPO in London next month. If the party does take this step, it is expected to be one of the largest British IPOs in years. This is because it will immediately become one of the most valuable companies in the United Kingdom, with a possible market value of €8,6 billion.
In addition, investment company HAL is considering bringing online store Coolblue to the stock exchange. But, where Deliveroo opts for the London stock exchange, HAL opts for the Amsterdam stock exchange. According to Huysmans and Blomme of ABN Amro, this is not a strange movement, they explain in The Telegraph.
Is Amsterdam taking over the role of London?
According to Huysman, the markets are currently trading at a high level, while the 'VIX index' - the indicator of volatility - is at a relatively low level. There is currently a lot of money in the market, interest rates are at a low level and there is prospect of a solution to the corona crisis. In short: this is an ultimate scenario for companies considering an IPO. In the meantime, more than €3 billion has been raised through the sale of shares via the stock exchange. De Telegraaf reports that this last happened in 2014 and 2015.
It is also noticeable that more and more international companies are registering on the Amsterdam stock exchange. Huysmans and Blomme argue that this is partly because the Netherlands has a small home market. "There have always been a lot of international investors." The fact that this is now increasing strongly is also due to Brexit. "London used to be the standard for companies seeking a listing in Europe, but all the uncertainty in the financial markets is now driving this shift towards Amsterdam."
