Energy Shift takes the next step towards an even more sustainable and cheaper future. By means of a battery on the farm, the farmer stores the energy generated for when he needs it. This means: no more purchasing expensive energy.
Solar panels have proven themselves in recent years as a profitable, sustainable investment. How could it be different? Many agricultural companies have enough roof surface to generate sufficient solar energy for their own use. To make even smarter use of the energy generated, Energy Shift for years research into the storage of energy by means of batteries.
No more expensive energy
Farmers sometimes have significant peaks in their power consumption. These do not always coincide with the times when the sun shines the strongest. Batteries are the ideal means of absorbing peaks in sustainable energy yield and preserving them for peak times in power consumption. Now this generated energy is returned to the grid. That while it is more interesting to be able to store this energy for personal use. With a battery in the yard, expensive energy no longer needs to be purchased at night (and on less sunny days).
Even higher returns
A battery in the yard is the profitable investment of the future. By having the possibility to store the self-generated energy, you achieve a even higher return of the investment in solar panels. That is good for the environment and the wallet. The development of batteries is going very fast. The new generation batteries are 100% safe and last 20 years without losing capacity. Energy Shift has already taken the first steps in using batteries at farms in the Netherlands.
Storage in the electricity grid costs money
Farmers with solar panels can be divided into large consumers (from 3x80A, who make use of an SDE++ subsidy) and small consumers (up to 3x80A, who make use of the netting scheme). From 1 January 2023, the government will phase out the netting scheme. This means that the power that small consumers supply back to the grid during peak times on sunny days is worth less than the energy that has to be purchased in the event of a shortage. This already applies to large users. He pays energy tax, Renewable Energy Storage and transport costs on the electricity that a large consumer purchases. That is a shame, especially because a large consumer generates more than enough sustainable energy.
The energy grid is too full
Another point that is taken into account when placing batteries in the yard is that the energy grid has become full in various places in the Netherlands in recent years. Grid operators are investing in expanding grid capacity, but at the moment more and more agricultural companies are faced with a negative transmission indication when applying for subsidy. If a solar panel installation cannot be connected to the grid because it is already 'full', this often means a line through the entire plan to invest in solar panels. That must and can be done differently!
