Solar panels on the roof

Offered: Energy Shift

€5 billion SDE++ available in September

15 March 2021

The SDE++ subsidy scheme will reopen at the end of September of this year. Minister van 't Wout of Economic Affairs and Climate has reported this to the House of Representatives. 2021 billion euros has been made available for 5 to encourage Dutch companies to produce renewable energy and reduce CO2 emissions. For many agricultural entrepreneurs, this means the moment for a sustainable investment.

The government continues to find it important that the Netherlands becomes more sustainable. By 2030, CO2 emissions must be 49% lower than in 1990. To achieve this, the government supports initiatives that contribute to CO2 reduction. Companies that want to produce renewable energy therefore receive a subsidy for their investment. The SDE++ subsidy is an interesting scheme for farmers who often have large roofs and high energy consumption.

Financial advantage
Investing in solar panels is very interesting from a price point of view. An entrepreneur who invests in solar panels through the SDE++ subsidy scheme enjoys a major financial advantage. He earns money through this subsidy on 3 moments. First of all, thanks to SDE++, the entrepreneur receives a maximum amount of 8 cents on his account for each kWh of solar energy generated, for a period of 15 years. Second, by using the energy it generates itself, it saves on electricity bills. Third, he sells the power that is not needed for his own business to the energy grid.

Conditions SDE++
Large consumers with an SDE++ subsidy earn their investment back on average in about 6 to 7 years. A number of conditions apply in order to be eligible for a subsidy decision. One of these is that the entrepreneur has a large-scale consumer connection (a connection to the electricity grid of more than 3x80A), or is prepared to upgrade to a large-scale consumer connection. In addition, the pressure on the electricity grid has increased in some places to such an extent that it has to be ensured that there is space on the electricity grid for the future installation. Since 2020, it is therefore also mandatory to provide a positive transmission indication from a network operator with the subsidy application.

Free subsidy application
This year the SDE++ is open from September 21 to October 14, 2021. Every year there is a considerable run on this subsidy. It is therefore important to be on time with the request not to fish behind the net. Company Energy Shift has years of experience in applying for these subsidies. She works closely with network operators and the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). To relieve farmers' worries, Energy Shift handles the entire subsidy application free of charge out of your hands. Look here for more information about this service.

Don't let the decision expire
Depending on the size of the subsidy application, an entrepreneur has 1,5 to 3 years after approval (the moment he/she receives a subsidy decision) to install solar panels. After this time, the decision will expire. Do you already have an SDE++ decision, but haven't done anything with it yet? Then make sure that the subsidy decision does not expire!
