Big differences
Horticulture has performed particularly well in the agricultural sector. The export of flowers and plants grew by €179 million in the first quarter of 2021 compared to the first quarter of 2020, according to the CBS figures. Meat is actually less imported by the UK. In the first quarter of this year, the UK purchased €25 million less meat compared to the same quarter a year earlier.
The UK is our most important trading partner after Germany. In 2020, the Netherlands earned €25,6 billion from exports to the UK. The country is therefore between Germany (accounting for €47,6 billion) and Belgium (€22,9 billion). The UK accounted for almost 10% of agricultural exports last year and contributed 7,5% of the total value added export in this sector.
