Dutch exports to the UK are growing

Dutch exports to the United Kingdom (UK) have held up well despite Brexit. Total goods exports even grew by 5% in the first quarter.

The export of Dutch-made goods was 2021% higher in the first quarter of 24 compared to the same quarter a year earlier, according to preliminary figures from Statistics Netherlands. Re-exports - where foreign products go to the UK via a Dutch trader - fell by 26% compared to a year earlier. Total goods exports grew by 5% in the first quarter.

Big differences 
Horticulture has performed particularly well in the agricultural sector. The export of flowers and plants grew by €179 million in the first quarter of 2021 compared to the first quarter of 2020, according to the CBS figures. Meat is actually less imported by the UK. In the first quarter of this year, the UK purchased €25 million less meat compared to the same quarter a year earlier.

The UK is our most important trading partner after Germany. In 2020, the Netherlands earned €25,6 billion from exports to the UK. The country is therefore between Germany (accounting for €47,6 billion) and Belgium (€22,9 billion). The UK accounted for almost 10% of agricultural exports last year and contributed 7,5% of the total value added export in this sector.
