News Economic barometer

The mechanization sector is remarkably positive

21 July 2021 - Jurphaas Lugtenburg

Manufacturers, importers and dealers in the agricultural and green sector are positive about the economic developments in the sector in the first half of 2021. Operating results, sales and capacity utilization turned out better than expected in the second half of last year.

This is apparent from the biannual economic barometer that the federation Fedecom has kept among its members. Manufacturers/importers and mixed companies (resale, service and construction) are more positive than dealer companies over the past six months. The dealers are again more positive for the coming six months. The participating companies see the order position level out in the second half of the year.

Prices keep rising
The price increases that have already occurred and are expected have a major impact. More than 75% of the respondents anticipate a further sharp increase in the price of machines and parts in the second half. Disruptions in the logistics chains and scarcity of raw materials, consumables and parts can even jeopardize the delivery of machines.

Exports grew significantly in the first half of the year compared to the year before. Exports are expected to continue to grow, albeit less rapidly than in the past period. 90% of companies have a neutral to favorable opinion about the utilization rate of the production or workshop. The large number of vacancies in the sector is striking. Almost half of the participating companies have an average of 2 vacancies that they expect to be difficult to fill.
