Innovation and development of the logistics and production chain are central to the plans. This is with the aim of further developing domestic dairy production and demand. To achieve a greater supply of safe milk, it is crucial to lift the supplying companies to a higher level, according to a spokesperson for the Chinese government.

Package of proposals
The plan contains a number of concrete proposals to develop milk producing companies. For example, more effort should be made on the genetic development of dairy cattle and the development of good forage crops. Dairy processing companies must be encouraged to obtain a larger share of the milk to be processed from their own dairy farms.

Companies must also better tailor their range of dairy products to the tastes and wishes of Chinese consumers. Product development can be stimulated by good cooperation with international parties.

In addition, the Chinese government now appears to be focusing on diversifying business operations in rural areas. It sees a clear recreational function for agricultural companies, where consumers can view stables and animals and where even more value-adding activities can be developed.

In addition to these suggestions for the companies themselves, the government must also monitor all links within the chain more closely. The main aim of this is to increase food safety.

Milk production shot up
According to the government's own figures, investments in the sector have already led to a significant increase in milk production in 2020. According to the Chinese government, milk production in 2020 was about 7,5% higher than the year before.
