Risk of NOW repayment for more than half of applicants

30 July 2021 - Linda van Eekeres

More than half of the employers in the agricultural sector who have applied for NOW allowance have not yet applied for a final calculation. They therefore run the risk of having to repay the entire advance. Although there is still time until October 31, the UWV is sounding the alarm.

The final calculation is necessary to determine to which compensation the employer is entitled. For this, the wage bill and the actual loss of turnover are taken into account.

Until now, only 44,9% of employers in the agricultural sector have requested the final calculation, according to data from the UWV. If employers do not request the final calculation in time, this can lead to a repayment of the entire advance.

Hurry up with final calculation
According to the UWV, 1.125 of the 2.041 employers in the agricultural sector have yet to request their final calculation. Janet Helder, board member at the UWV, states in a press release: "There is still time. But employers who do not apply for the final calculation run the risk that they will run into problems later. No definitive calculation means that the allowance will be set at zero. and you therefore have to repay your entire advance. We want to prevent that. So that we are now at only 44,9% is worrying."

Employers who need a third-party or accountant's statement have an additional problem. Helder: "It is extremely busy at bookkeepers and accountants at the moment. That is why it is really important that employers know that they have to take action themselves and that they have to get to work now."

Incidentally, this does not only apply to the agricultural sector. 57% of all entrepreneurs who have received an allowance for wage costs have not yet applied for the final calculation. 37% of them take no action because they are not sufficiently informed that they have to request the final calculation themselves.

More information about the application can be found on the information page of the UWV.
