Position within the internship: Coordinating Roughage Tour

Erik has just graduated and is taking his experiences with us Boerenbusiness along in practice. "I have become more independent through my internship, purely because of the freedom that I was given."

How did you come up with the idea to Boerenbusiness to do an internship?
"I had just subscribed to the platform 3-4 months before the internship when I saw the ad for an intern. I was excited and responded, then it went pretty quickly and I was able to start working at the company!"

What did your internship involve?
"During my internship at Boerenbusiness I was mainly involved in coordinating the Roughage Tour and calling participants and specialists to write articles. This is the second time Boerenbusiness performs the Roughage Tour. Last year, for the first time, 10 Dutch farmers in dairy farming with grass and maize fields were followed. The Crop Tour for agriculture had already been going on for 3 years, in which onions and potato plots for arable farmers are followed. The idea at the front was to collect as much data as possible, that's what they're there for Boerenbusiness fond of. Content had to be written about this and the information was also fed back to the farmers who participated. In this way a lot of information is exchanged. I was able to work in the culture to which I am used: the agricultural sector. I was given a lot of freedom and there was no hard work; do your own thing. This is something I was also good at.”

How did you work?
"For example, it was agreed with me that I would publish 3 or 4 articles before the end of the week. How I did that and how I spent my time was up to me. In the first few weeks the number of readers of my articles did not increase. about writing home, but in the end you also learn from that and you learn how to do it differently.Every Friday we sat down for a while to look at the articles that were posted and so you know a bit how it goes and what are things you can improve or do exactly the same in upcoming articles."

What was the most fun thing to do?
"During my internship I got the most energy from the contact with the farmers! That was also one of my tasks: keeping the Roughage Tour group app alive. In the beginning, this mainly came from me, but in the end it became an interaction; quite progress."

What did you learn during your internship?
"The developments within my internship mainly took place in the field of writing articles, this is where I was able to take the biggest steps. I was not used to writing yet, but you grow into this after a few weeks. others read, look at how they write and how they deal with their creativity. In addition, this internship was very valuable for the future because of the people I got to know."

Would you do an internship at Boerenbusiness recommend?
"I would definitely recommend an internship here to future interns. However, if you are going to do the Roughage Tour, it is important to realize that this really has to be your thing. You have to want to get everything out of it yourself and you have to contact want to maintain with all participants and partners. If this is what you feel like, it is a super valuable internship!"
