Activists invade VanDrie Group location

13 September 2021 - Wouter Baan

82 animal activists broke into the Ekro calf slaughterhouse in Apeldoorn, part of the VanDrie Group, last night. The activists of the French organization 269 Libération Animale chained themselves up and were removed from the site under police escort.

VanDrie Group considers the action 'unheard of rude and totally criminal' and has filed a report. No employees were present during the occupation, only 2 security guards. They could not prevent the activists from entering.

In the night from Sunday to Monday, under the supervision of the riot police, the police evacuated the slaughterhouse and arrested the activists, the Gelderlander writes.

Animal activists have been able to penetrate livestock farms and slaughterhouses in recent years with increasing frequency in Northwestern Europe.
