Nitrogen claim to court for Wierdense Veld

15 September 2021 - Redactie Boerenbusiness

Nitrogen claim is preparing a lawsuit against the province of Overijssel. According to the foundation, the Overijssel plans for raised bog restoration in the Wierdense Veld and the associated expropriation of 180 hectares of farmland are no good.

The foundation believes that the province has taken a number of legally questionable decisions in the preparation of the plans. Decisions that do not conform to European directives. According to the foundation, soils in the recovering raised moor area Wierdense Veld have also been incorrectly classified, as a result of which incorrect deposition values are used.

Unnecessary Expense
The province of Overijssel has earmarked approximately €40 million for the restoration of the almost 400 hectare high moor area Wierdense Veld. Roughly half of this is intended for land purchase. According to the Nitrogen Claim Foundation, the purchase of the land is an unnecessary and unnecessarily expensive option, but has failed to investigate it.
