Livestock farmer's confidence in government towards zero

21 October 2021 - Klaas van der Horst - 1 reaction

Dutch livestock farmers have almost all lost confidence in the government. Only 2% of them have a lot of confidence in it. There is also little faith left in politics and other established players. This is shown by a survey by I&O research among 981 livestock farmers on behalf of de Volkskrant.

There is still relatively much confidence in civil society as radical action groups, such as the Farmers Defense Force (FDF), in Agractie and the animal feed industry. It is remarkable that the FDF scores higher than LTO Nederland (48% trust the FDF, 41% LTO), and that the feed companies beat the dairy and the banks.

The little faith that livestock farmers still have in politics is massively projected onto Caroline van der Plas' BoerBurgerBeweging. If elections were to be held now, when almost 70% of the livestock farmers vote for this party, the SGP comes in second with 8% support, the CDA would come in third with 4%. Furthermore, only 5% trust the Ministry of Agriculture. Carola Schouten gets the hands of no more than 9% of the farmers.

Livestock farmers think they're too rich
Another outcome of the survey, for which 2.000 citizens were also approached, is that the livestock farmers consider themselves too rich when it comes to citizen support. Three quarters of the livestock farmers think that the majority of the Dutch are behind them, while in reality this is only 38%. In addition, half of the citizens think that the livestock should be reduced. Only 12% of farmers are convinced of this.

Farmers cite the fact that they are faced with obligation after obligation and that as a group they are disproportionately affected as the cause of the enormous decline in confidence. Often there is the feeling that they are blamed for everything that goes wrong.

If the government, with Schouten, continues to call out to the Dutch population that just about everything the farmers do is wrong, then you will go under as a sector whether you want to or not.
I am convinced that the agricultural sector does not emit more nitrogen than they can place on their own land, what I do not understand is that large industrial companies can, for example, purchase CO2 abroad and then produce it in the Netherlands.
Schouten demands land-relatedness from farmers, but what good is this to us as farmers are not allowed to count this land.
"What does land-basedness represent"?
You can no longer respond.
