News Quotes 500

These are the agricultural multimillionaires

4 November 2021 - Linda van Eekeres - 2 comments

The well-known Quote 500 list has been published again. Most agricultural entrepreneurs have dropped out of the list. Although it is not the case that these entrepreneurs have become less wealthy en masse, they have been surpassed by even richer persons. Exceptions include Marc and Addy van Rooi. They saw their assets increase by 30% to €390 million. And the assets of Jan Anker, major shareholder of A-ware, increase by a fifth to €145 million. This moves them up a spot or thirty on the list.

Wijnand Pon is once again the highest ranked in the agricultural sector. He is at number 15. Although his wealth grows by 10% to € 2,2 billion, he drops two places. He is also not a purely agricultural entrepreneur. Pon made most of his wealth in the auto industry. "The trade in bull semen and related matters for the livestock industry has been absorbed into the mobility juggernaut", Quote says in this edition.

The following entrepreneurs are also old acquaintances: sisters Alicia and Tannetta Fentener van Vlissingen of SHV, the parent company of, among others, animal feed manufacturer Nutreco. They drop eleven places to place 56 and 57. They have not become poorer either. Their assets grew by 1,9% to €810 million. Harold Fentener van Vlissingen is at number 85 (was 74) with €545 million (+0,9%). The last three family members involved in SVH are Annemiek and Cisca Fentener van Vlissingen and Marthe Fock at number 91, 92 and 93 (that was ten places higher). The assets of all three are 495 million (+1%).

Diek Parlevliet and business partner Jan van der Plas of Parlevliet & Van der Plas (fisheries) drop from place 60 and 61 to number 73 and 74. Their mutual assets grow 2,5% to €615 million. The next on the list also comes from fishing: Annerieke Vrolijk (company Cornelis Vrolijk) drops ten places to 83, with a capital of €550 million.

In place 88 (was 85) is Piet Mazereeuw of seed breeder Enza Zaden. He is worth 4,2% more with 500 million. Sebastiaan and Alexander Tesink (veterinary medicines) go from 104 to 95. Their assets have grown by almost 23%. Bert van den Brink from the poultry sector drops from place 91 to 100. His capital remains stable at 450 million. The children of Van den Brink: Rik, Willeke and Jolanda, are jointly in place 111 (was 98). Their assets remain the same at €400 million. Kees Meijer of Meijer Patato is in place 2,3 (was 101) with the same power (but increased by 96%). Erik van Loon of the Brabant meat trader Van Loon Groep is in place 103 (previously 100) with 435 million (+8,8%).

Marc and Addy van Rooi have risen from place 143 to 116. They managed to increase their capital by 30% in the corona year to €390 million. Andries Verder (mechanisation) also rises from place 134 to 118 on the list, with a capital of €385 million. Piet van der Slikke (food) makes a big step up from 169 to 125, with a capital of €355 million.

Ingrid Pon (beef) is in place 139 (was 133). Joel and Danny Wyler (grain trade) are at number 160 (was 146) with a net worth of €300 million. Wim van der Laar of, among others, the Larco cannery factory does not move on the list and remains at 163. His assets grew 11% to €295 million.

Twin brothers Iwan and Mark van der Knaap of flower breeder Anthura drop from 166 to 177. Their capital increases by 3,8% to 270 million. Anton van Doornmalen and Ben Tax of seed breeding company Rijk Zwaan are in place 182 and 183 (was 170 and 176). The assets of both are 260 million (+4%). Tax is the last of the 25 largest multimillionaires of the agricultural sector on the Quote list. Just behind it, in place 185 (was 168), is Jaap Vreugdenhil of Vreugdenhil Dairy Foods. His net worth is also €260 million, but has remained the same this year.

newcomers
New to the list is Jack Hazenbroek, founder of slaughter machine manufacturer Foodmate, which was acquired by Duravant this year. He immediately comes in at number 188 with a net worth of €250 million. Also in place 365 is a new name: Bart van der Meer, CEO and shareholder of Ausnutria Dairy. His estimated net worth is €150 million. Also new on the list: Jan and Arend Hardeman, in place 324 (wealth 165 million). They have amassed their wealth with, among other things, insulation and solar panels, but also poultry and calves.

Risers
In addition, a number of climbers stand out on the list. Frank van Stipdonk (Interfood) moves up ten places to 222. Lara Timmerman and Arwin Vriend (Pop Vriend Seeds) move up slightly on the list to 231 and 232. Bas and Frank Barenburg (grass seeds) go from 346 to 319. Peter and Paul Koppert (crop protection) rise from 485 to place 437.

All eaters from the rack of our peasantry, who themselves do not deserve lightning. Thanks guys, and good luck with our hard earned money. BAH

For these parties, mass is cash register for the farmer, less mass is more cash register. They are opposing interests in the agricultural sector, unfortunately the parties on the periphery have already hijacked the 'peasant' advocates so the peasant interests have long been forgotten.
