Rent prices have risen sharply in Germany. In ten years, the average price has increased by 61%. This is evident from new figures from the Bondesinformationszentrum Landwirtschaft (BZL).
The average rent price in 2020 in Germany was €329 per hectare. The price for arable land was €375 per hectare and has therefore become 63% more expensive in ten years. The lease of grassland has increased by 52% in that period and in 2020 amounted to €199 per hectare. To put the price increases in perspective: general inflation was 14% over the same period. The purchase price for agricultural land has risen even more strongly than the rent prices. In 2010, 1 hectare of land for agricultural use cost €11.854. That has now more than doubled. One hectare cost an average of €2020 in 26.777. BZL therefore differs slightly from the Destatos figure.
strong variation
The critical note that can be placed with the BZL figures is that calculations are made with averages. In certain regions, for example, new lease contracts are set at €1.000 per hectare, while prices for existing tenants hardly increase. The same also applies to the sales prices of land where certain regions, according to data from the DBV, rise very much above the average.
