A shed or stable that still contains asbestos sheets? A completely new roof can be fitted within a week. At dairy farm Prins Overschild CV they know all about it. Middendorp Montage renovated the roof of the stable and took care of the entire process, from the permit application to completion.
Satisfied, Arno Prins looks at the barn where his young stock is kept. "It looks neat again and we now have a future-proof roof," says the entrepreneur. Together with his cousin Hans (see photo) and uncle Leo, he runs a dairy farm in Overschild in Groningen with two hundred cows and one hundred young cattle. In October 2020 they bought an additional cubicle barn for the young stock. "There was still asbestos on it and that eventually has to be removed," says Prins.
The opportunity to do that arose, so the entrepreneurs immediately took up the challenge. At their other location they had already met Middle Village Assembly worked. The collaboration went well and so the renovation company was called in again at the end of 2020. "We indicated how we wanted it, then Middendorp arranges everything," says Prins. "The building plan, applying for the permit, removing the old roof, removing the material and putting on the new roof… Everything is taken care of."
Replace everything for one whole
In total, this involved approximately 1.500 square meters of roof that had to be renovated. "Two-thirds was asbestos, the rest was not," says Prins. "Nevertheless, we have had everything replaced, so that it becomes one whole. We also provided the front with new cladding."

The project started in mid-May. In principle, the animals could remain in the stable, in the part without asbestos-containing panels, but Prins chose not to do so. "The cattle still go outside during that period. A great opportunity to spray clean the barn right away."
The dairy farmer looks back with satisfaction on the renovation project. "It went pretty smoothly. The remediation took two days, putting the new plates on top of it a day and a half and finally the facade was still a day's work. All in all, we were ready in a week."
Energy neutral company
The milking parlor with approximately 420 square meters of roof has also been overhauled. That already happened in April. "There were asbestos-free plates on them, but these were ugly and bad. We therefore had them replaced with insulated sandwich panels and the roof fitted with a light ridge. The milking parlor has become a lot lighter, which is very pleasant. Lying on the roof now eighty solar panels. Together with the wind turbine we already had, we can now work in principle in an energy-neutral way."
