Over the first eight months of the year, Dutch exports of meat, dairy, fish, vegetables and fruit to the United Kingdom fell by 8,1% to €2,2 billion. Total exports of these goods did grow by 5,4%. The share of food products to the United Kingdom decreased from 8,7% to 7,6%. This is apparent from figures on the trade in goods and the Internationalization Monitor of the Central Bureau of Statistics.
Conversely, the United Kingdom supplied fewer food products that depend on fast logistics. Over the first eight months of the year, the Netherlands imported €281 million of this type of goods from the United Kingdom. That is almost half less than in the same period a year earlier.
In the period from January to August 2015, the year before the Brexit referendum, the United Kingdom's share of food exports was still 11,5%. The United Kingdom was then the second largest export destination for these products. This share is now 7,6%. This makes the United Kingdom the fourth export destination, after Germany, Belgium and France.
Pork export value is increasing
The export value of cheese remained at €68 million in the period from January to August, slightly below last year's level. The export value of fresh beef halved, while the export value of fresh pork increased by approximately 25%. This is due to higher pork prices. The fresh pork and beef come from animals bred in the Netherlands.
