There are again rumors that FrieslandCampina wants to divest the Friso brand. This is reported by Reuters citing sources. Early this year these sounds were already sung around, but then this was definitely disproved.
FrieslandCampina is said to have engaged investment bank JP Morgan to supervise a deal. In the meantime, various potential buyers have been approached, including private equity firms. Insiders think that FrieslandCampina can capture €2,2 billion for Friso.
FrieslandCampina recently indicated that it was investigating the strategic options surrounding Friso. That study is expected to be completed in the course of 2022. A FrieslandCampina spokesperson declined to comment on the sales rumours.
Turnover and profitability down
Friso is part of the 'specialized nutrition' division. The profitability of this division is under pressure. In the first half year from 2021, turnover fell by a sloppy 15% to €516 million, profitability even fell by more than 80%. The last major brand to be sold by FrieslandCampina in 2017 was soft drink brand Riedel.
Another rumor that is circulating in the corridors is that the dairy cooperative plans to sell the factory in Borculo. The spokesperson does not want to comment on that either, although he does say that this is separate from the reconsiderations surrounding Friso. "We do not respond to rumours. If there is news, we will report it." Recently, the news came out that the production in Borculo is being scaled down due to the declining Chinese demand for baby milk powder.
