2 more days before license plate registration tractor

29 December 2021 - Linda van Eekeres - 8 comments

The license plate and registration obligation for (agricultural) construction vehicles such as tractors will come into effect on 1 January. Anyone who then goes on the road without a license plate will not immediately be fined. Due to the administrative pressure, the Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management and the Minister of Justice have instituted a leniency period of six months.

This does not mean that you can postpone the registration for another six months. "Ultimately, if you do drive, you will run into problems," says Rob van Dokkumburg of the RDW on BNR Nieuwsradio. "In addition, this year with modified rules as a transitional situation, it was easy and cheap to register, €18 euros and then online. That expires on 1 January, then the normal rules apply. This means that you can take your vehicle to one of the sixteen inspection stations of the RDW and you have to lose at least €140."

160.000 vehicles more than expected
Many entrepreneurs have waited until late to register their vehicles. An increase in the number of applications has been visible since November, writes outgoing Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management Barbara Visser in a letter to the House of Representatives. "The number of applications for registration stood at more than 21 on December 2021, 660.000. The RDW expects a total of more than 2021 applications by the end of 710.000, 160.000 applications more than the estimate of 550.000 that was made together with the industry and that was involved in the amendment of the law. provided."

It is estimated that more than 75.000 applications cannot be processed before January 1, and it will take until the end of June 2022 for all applications to be processed. That is why no fines will be issued until 1 July 2022.

Without a license plate no faster than 25 kilometers
Visser emphasizes that the leniency only applies to the enforcement of the registration obligation. A (agricultural) construction vehicle still has to comply with the insurance obligation on the road. It is also not allowed to drive faster than 25 kilometers per hour with an unregistered vehicle. Driving faster (up to a maximum of 40 kilometers) is only allowed if the vehicle has a number plate.

Yesterday I heard from an initiate that in the foreseeable future there will be an inspection obligation for tractors that are allowed 50 and the tools pulled by them, so the combination all around on air brakes.

This message is correct and that is why it was important that you had your affairs arranged before 1 Jan 2022, otherwise you are subject to an inspection.

I had understood that in Belgium a yellow plate has to be put on the tractor in front and behind, but the record maker is only allowed to issue 1, what about that?
