Third of EU countries miss deadline for NSP

4 January 2022 - Jurphaas Lugtenburg

Not all EU member states have submitted their (draft) National Strategic Plan to the European Commission before the deadline of 1 January 2022. European Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski tweeted yesterday that eighteen member states (out of 27) had sent their NSPs to the Commission before the deadline.

The Netherlands belongs to the group of countries that submitted the NSP on time. The Dutch plan has been submitted as a draft. The Strategic Environmental Impact Report and the summary of the NSP can be viewed (online) from December 22, 2021 to February 1, 2022. It is also possible to submit an opinion on the plan during this period. Any views received on the plan, together with the comments from Brussels, will be incorporated into the final version. Only after the approval of the EU will the NSP become final.

The NSP is the national elaboration of the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The CAP will enter into force on 1 January 2023. The NSPs are an important part of the CAP and are currently scheduled to be approved by the Commission by 30 June 2022 at the latest.

The Dutch NSP and information about submitting an opinion is here to find.
