Dutch inflation higher than average in the eurozone

2 February 2022 - Linda van Eekeres

Dutch inflation amounted to 7,6% in January, compared to one year earlier and according to the European calculation method. That is higher than in the entire eurozone, where average inflation in January stood at 5,1%. That appears from Numbers of the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

In the month of December, the annual inflation rate, according to the European price index (HICP), in the Netherlands was 6,4%. In the eurozone it was 5%. According to this method, inflation in the Netherlands was 2,8% over the past year as a whole.

Statistics Netherlands will publish inflation according to the Dutch calculation method next week. The basket of goods and services and their weighting are different with the European method. The European calculation method has been developed to be able to compare the different countries.

According to the Dutch calculation method, the consumer price index (CPI), goods and services were 5,7% more expensive in December than a year earlier and inflation was 2,7% over the entire past year.
