'Accelerately buy out peak loaders to build'

6 April 2022 - Linda van Eekeres - 1 reaction

Bouwend Nederland calls on the cabinet to start buying out farms now. The sector organization is doing this in the run-up to the nitrogen debate tonight (April 6) in the House of Representatives. According to Bouwend Nederland, the nitrogen policy will lock the country for two years and the cabinet can forget about the ambition to build 100.000 homes per year.

The sector organization warns - together with VNO-NCW and FME - in De Telegraaf that construction and economic development will come to a standstill if the new nitrogen approach continues. In the Radio 1 Journaal, chairman Maxime Verhagen explains: "With this plan, the cabinet ambitions in the coming two years in the field of legalizing PAS detectors - farmers who started earlier with the expectation that they could continue - economic development, energy transition, housing construction, infrastructure, cannot be realized. Room for new economic development is not made possible. Rather, there is less space. We cannot lock the country for two years."

'30 to 60 peak loaders willing to voluntarily stop'
According to Verhagen, there are 'thirty to sixty peak loaders who are willing to voluntarily talk about stopping or moving. "What we need at the moment is the accelerated buy-out and relocation of peak loaders who want to voluntarily stop. Apply all available systems now to reduce nitrogen and not wait a while," Verhagen told Radio 1.

Bouwend Nederland also proposes to register immediately per company what the emission reduction is 'instead of what the minister proposes to monitor over time - afterwards - how nature is doing'. "We have been dealing with this problem for three years now, so you would have expected that there would be a very concrete, decisive, effective approach that immediately yields results."

According to Verhagen, projects are currently on hold, involving a total of thousands of homes. Furthermore, in a number of provinces no new permits are issued (or delayed). "If you compare that to the ambition of 100.000 homes a year that should be built, then you can forget it."
